Hatching Events: Welcoming Baby Turtles
Should you witness the magic of a baby turtle making its way across the beach or perhaps even spot one in your villa, learn what steps to take.
Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi serves as a cherished sea turtle nesting site, meaning we are privileged to host sea turtle nests on our island from time to time. If you are fortunate, you might even have a nest right in your own villa’s backyard.
It is of utmost importance that we do not disrupt these turtles’ natural behaviors. If you come across a turtle, whether it is an adult or a hatchling, or if you suspect it is in distress and needs assistance, please reach out to our Marine Biologist, Neus, or contact the Resort Centre.
Should you encounter hatchlings, please adhere to the following instructions to ensure their safe journey to the sea:
• Immediately inform Neus, the Resort Centre, or your villa host
• Be cautious with your steps
• Avoid touching or handling them unless specifically advised by our marine biologist
• Turn off all lights, including those in your villa, your phones, and any flash photography
• If you come across disoriented hatchlings or ones that have ventured inland, gently reposition them towards the ocean. Keep a watchful eye on them until the marine biologist arrives.
